Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. January 30th, 2025

January 30, 2025
Ontario P.C. leader Doug Ford says he will honour the province’s commitment to the EV sector if re-elected as Ontario’s Premier. There is just one major roadblock in this vision: U.S. President Donald Trump. In his efforts to increase American vehicle production, Trump plans to target Canada’s automotive sector, which is largely fueled by Ontario. Back in 2023, the province had signed an auto pact with the feds, meaning they would have to pay one-third of all production incentives with Volkswagen, Stellantis, and LG Energy Solution. In turn, they could utilize their EV battery plants. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Julie Simmons, an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Guelph. Later in Hour 2, we shift gears to a scary collision in the skies in Washington. Last night, an American Airlines flight collided with a helicopter in mid-air. A trio of soldiers were on board the helicopter, while 60 passengers and 4 crew members were in the airplane. Sadly, as we heard this afternoon, officials believe that nobody survived the wreckage. Joining us with his insight is Scott Hamilton, an aviation analyst at Chicago-based Leeham Company. He has been analyzing plane crashes for the past 40 years.
