Approximately 13 months ago, senior staff and trustees at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board held a retreat at which the Elementary Program Review (EPR) was introduced to us. A young Indigenous woman who spoke to us asked, “Ten years from now, what will you say to children if the same disparities that we’ve identified continue to exist?” We talked at length about lack of access to French immersion programs, and four schools in the Alta Vista area of my zone (Arch Street Public School, Hawthorne Public School, Charles Hulse Public School and Featherston Public School) were used as an example of systemic inequality in the OCDSB.
