Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. March 13th, 2025

March 13, 2025
Canadian officials are set to meet with the U.S. Commerce Secretary in Washington today. It comes just days after a dust-up between Ontario Premier Doug Ford and U.S. President Donald Trump, which ended with the province pausing a 25 percent electricity surcharge to three U.S. states. Premier Ford says his goal is to acquire a coherent sense of the Trump administration’s plans for tariffs. CTV’s Judy Trinh delivers the details. Meantime, the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs is warning that Trump’s tariffs will have a significant impact on fire services all across the country, as they will make it more challenging to buy critical emergency equipment. And following two straight years of serious wildfires, time is money. Kristy Cameron chats with Ken McMullen, who is the President of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs. Plus, just before he leaves office, Prime Minister Trudeau is trying to find a solution for the now-vacant 24 Sussex Drive. He sent a letter to Canada’s Public Services and Procurement Minister, asking him to develop a proposal with options for a new official residence by January 2026. Marc Denhez, the President of Historic Ottawa Development, submits his thoughts on the matter.
