A new poll says Canadians are rethinking who their ‘true allies’ are. It appears the United States isn’t as high on this list compared to the start of 2025. Here at home, the City of Ottawa is scrapping its plans to build newcomer reception centres in Nepean and Kanata. They had been planning a ‘prefabricated building’ near the Nepean Sportsplex, and potentially another one near the Eagleson Park-and-Ride. When they were first unveiled, City Hall was filled to the brim with public backlash. And now, they are moving away from those plans. Kanata South councillor Allan Hubley joins the program in Hour 3.
Ottawa police have expanded their use of special constables — unarmed peace officers with nearly all the training of a patrol officer but without the option to use lethal force — to take some of the workload off an overburdened front line.
