We have reached the early stages of a Canadian Spring – where the weather is unpredictable and potentially downright nasty. A few years ago, ahead of the Easter Weekend, an ice storm caused a lot of problems for Canada’s Capital. This weekend, we could see more of the same chaos from Jack Frost, as 15 centimetres of snow and 5 to 15 millimetres of freezing rain is expected to fall. Meantime, it’s Day 5 of the federal election campaign, and all of Canada’s party leaders are talking about the same thing. That would be U.S. President Donald Trump and his incoming auto tariffs. Daniela Lobo, a psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, has seen a worrying change in how some teenagers are playing video games.Some patients in her practice as young as 16 are using their savings to buy loot boxes, which are virtual goodie bags filled with weapons and other items, that draw them into activities that resemble gambling. Often times, they’re not aware of the similarities.“As people start to develop problems with it, there are increased conflicts at home, lower grades, people missing school [and] sleeping less,” Dr. Lobo said.
