Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Wed. April 30th, 2025

April 30, 2025
The Ontario government is thinking about shortening the length of Teachers’ College, an effort to address the worsening shortage of educators across the province. This follows an FOI request on teacher supply and demand, submitted by the Canadian Press. In this document, research shows that teachers who complete longer practicums feel better prepared to do their jobs. They are also more likely to stay in their profession. Right now, these programs are typically 2 years, divided into 4 semesters. The new revisions would likely shorten it down to just one year. Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Karen Brown, the President of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario. Meantime, parts of the National Capital Region are picking up the pieces following Tuesday’s storm. And for a family-owned business in Greely, it’s going to take a lot of time and hard work. Joining the show in Hour 1 to recount Tuesday’s events is Anna Maria D’Angelo, the Executive Assistant of Albion Glass and Aluminum Incorporated. Thanks to heavy winds, they need a new roof after the current one was peeled away.
