As the trade war with the United States continues to escalate, Canadians are evaluating a lot of things about our country. Obviously, our overall economic reliance on America is one thing. The existing domestic trade barriers is another. And lastly, our military spending is a hot-button topic. But on a much lighter note, we are shifting gears as to how we measure things. Right now, our country implements a strange mixture of the Metric System and the Imperial System. Is it time to abandon the latter? Kristy Cameron chats with Ken Alder, a Professor of History at Illinois-based Northwestern University. Daniela Lobo, a psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, has seen a worrying change in how some teenagers are playing video games.Some patients in her practice as young as 16 are using their savings to buy loot boxes, which are virtual goodie bags filled with weapons and other items, that draw them into activities that resemble gambling. Often times, they’re not aware of the similarities.“As people start to develop problems with it, there are increased conflicts at home, lower grades, people missing school [and] sleeping less,” Dr. Lobo said.
