Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Wed. April 23rd, 2025
April 23, 2025

The future of Downtown Ottawa was back in the spotlight earlier today, as the City of Ottawa held a ‘city building summit’. The events kicked off this morning at Rogers Centre Ottawa with a speech from Mayor Mark Sutcliffe. A lot of Ottawa-based movers and shakers were in attendance, a list that ranged from politicians to business leaders and local developers. One of the sessions focused on turning Canada’s Capital into a music hub – a ‘music city’ such as Nashville. CTV’s Katelyn Wilson has more on that story in Hour 1. At the same time, several longtime faces in the Downtown Core have been moving out of town in recent years, headlined by the likes of Dunn’s Deli and Cake Dekcuf. And over the past few months, this sight feels more frequent than usual. As we try to figure out a path forward, is our city headed in the right direction? Kristy Cameron starts a brainstorming session with Rideau-Vanier councillor Stephanie Plante and Zachary Dayler of the ByWard Market District Authority.
Inside a hotel event hall in the centre of the province, 12 Alberta flags hung around the large room. But nowhere to be found was the red and white maple leaf. Around 400 people had gathered at the Red Deer Resort and Casino Conference Centre for a town hall hosted by the newly re-named Republican Party of Alberta to promote the province’s growing independence movement.
