Hockey Canada sex-assault trial spotlights roadblocks and missed opportunities in first London police probe

Eight months after receiving a complaint that a group of former world junior hockey players sexually assaulted a woman in a downtown hotel, London police detective Stephen Newton had reached the end of his investigation.In a phone call with E.M., as the complainant is known because of a publication ban on her name, he told her he didn’t have enough evidence to continue his probe.
