Bank of Canada, Crown corporations to trim budgets to align with Liberals’ cost-cutting plans

The Bank of Canada and most other federal Crown corporations will be looking to trim their budgets alongside a wider government effort to cut costs.A spokesperson for the Bank of Canada confirms the central bank will “align” with the Liberal government’s plans to carve out savings of 15 per cent in departments’ operational spending over the next three years.
Via Rail says new collective agreements have been ratified with about 2,500 unionized workers. The agreements with Unifor’s council 4000 and Local 100 cover the period from the start of this year through to the end of 2027.

The Trudeau government’s spending splurges — less than Bank of Canada interest rate policies — were largely responsible for soaring inflation during the pandemic, a new report has concluded.
The report, conducted by two economists at the C.D. Howe Institute, points the finger at Ottawa’s unfunded spending spree that acted as “helicopter drops” of money for the private sector.
