Macron stuck in Trump's traffic in New York, reportedly phones the U.S. president to 'clear the way'

September 23, 2025

French President Emmanuel Macron, who was blocked by Donald Trump’s motorcade in New York on Monday night, reportedly called the U.S. president and asked him to “clear the road.”

In a video posted online by European news outlet Visegrad24, a police officer apologizes to Macron and tells him that a motorcade is on its way.

“I don’t see it,” replies Macron. “Let me cross.”

While he was forced to wait, Macron decided to take it upon himself to call Trump, per The Telegraph and Daily Mail .

“Guess what? I’m waiting (on) the street because everything is frozen for you,” Macron says in the video, and then laughs at the response. The video then cuts to Macron speaking on the phone while walking, and later, posing for pictures with some people on the street.

One man even decided to plant a kiss on Macron’s forehead as he waited for the photo to be taken.

According to The Telegraph, the French president was heading toward the French embassy.

Both Trump and Macron, along with dozens of others from around the world, are in New York for the UN General Assembly.

Trump arrived on Monday evening , around 7:30 p.m. ET.

Earlier on Monday, France recognized Palestinian statehood — a decision that is in direct opposition to the Trump administration’s stance on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Trump is expected to speak at the UN on Tuesday morning. He is also set to take part in meetings before going back to the White House late Tuesday night.

OTTAWA — Dominic LeBlanc beat cancer. Now, just five years later, Canada’s minister for Canada-U.S. trade is battling another malignant threat: U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs. LeBlanc, the Carney government’s minister of just about everything, has spent much of this week in Washington, D.C. as the lead cabinet minister trying to navigate the choppy and unpredictable waters of the Trump administration’s trade policies. In many ways, LeBlanc was an extreme long shot to be in this position as the cabinet’s point person tasked with one of the country’s most important challenges...
