Ottawa Now - Premier Ford requests Ottawa City Hall to shut down all photo radar cameras

September 25, 2025

Remember when Ontario’s Premier said he would deactivate photo radar cameras if the municipalities didn’t? Well, that countdown has been triggered at Ottawa City Hall. Doug Ford has issued a request to shut down every single camera in Canada’s Capital, a practice that he has dubbed a ‘cash grab’. By mid-November, cameras situated in school zones must be replaced with large new signs. Once we get to September of 2026, permanent flashing lights should be installed. Opposing parties at Queen’s Park have been quick to push back on Ford’s decision, and the mayor of Ontario’s largest municipality has also chimed in against the Premier’s plan. Jamie Kwong is the Executive Director of the Ottawa Safety Council. She outlines her concerns on today’s Ottawa Now.
