Alberta teachers appear poised to strike next week after rejecting tentative deal

The president of the Alberta Teachers Association says the union has no further bargaining planned with the province after teachers voted overwhelmingly to reject the government’s latest offer ahead of an Oct. 6 strike deadline.

Nearly 90 per cent of teachers who cast ballots voted to reject the province’s latest contract offer, which included a 12-per-cent wage hike over four years and a promise from the government to hire 3,000 more teachers over the next three years to help address class sizes.
