A Canadian whose parents’ remains were held hostage in Gaza, and who has friends still captive there, says she hopes those who killed her parents and other Canadian victims will be prosecuted.
Iris Weinstein Haggai says she can’t let herself get too excited by the news that a ceasefire deal has been reached between Israel and Hamas, adding that she knows from experience that “until it’s done, it’s not done.” But she’s hopeful that all 48 hostages will be returned home soon, some to their families, and others to be buried, like her parents were in June.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney promised months ago that his government would double Canada’s current rate of residential construction to reach 500,000 homes per year, but that target is “ambitious” according to Housing Minister Gregor Robertson.
At the House of Commons committee on finance on Monday, Robertson was being grilled on his government’s commitment by Conservative finance critic Jasraj Singh Hallan when he said that ramping up construction up to that level would not happen overnight.
