On Thursday, America’s biggest boss pressed the ‘Pause’ button on some of his Canadian-made and Mexico-made tariffs. However, he has made it very clear that our country has not evaded the firing squad. So before speeding through March and diving head-first into April, Canada is wasting little time in providing urgent relief to its inhabitants. Earlier today, Employment Minister Steven MacKinnon unveiled a series of enhanced supports for Canadian businesses, which will take effect immediately as we fight through these challenging times together. Meantime, our country is also hitting the ‘Pause’ button on its second round of counter-tariffs, but Ontario’s Premier is still pressing forward with his push-back. This month, the Canada Revenue Agency is sending out its final Canada Carbon Rebate payments to eligible Canadians. But the CRA has also announced that it may have overpaid some individuals, and it wants that money back. In the “what has changed” section of its website, it notes: “The CCR rural supplement was paid out to some people who were not entitled to get it. To maintain a fair and equitable tax system, the CRA is required to recover any overpayments or payments made in error.” The site says affected taxpayers will receive an official notification starting April 15...
