Supreme Court orders new trial in Jennifer Pan case

April 10, 2025
The Supreme Court of Canada has ordered a new trial in the case of Jennifer Pan, a Markham woman who arranged a murder-for-hire plot in 2010 that left her mother dead and her father critically injured. The court found that the trial judge failed to properly instruct the jury, affirming a 2023 Ontario Court of Appeal ruling that ordered a new trial. The appeal court ruling upheld the convictions of Ms. Pan and four co-accused in the attempted murder of her father, but overturned their 2014 murder convictions in the shooting death of Ms. Pan’s mother.
