Trial begins in former world junior hockey players’ sexual-assault case

The sexual-assault case against five former world junior hockey players will challenge the public’s understanding of what constitutes the offence, Crown attorney Heather Donkers said at the start of the trial at Ontario Superior Court in London, Ont., Monday. In her opening statement, Ms. Donkers told the jury, “This case is about consent and, equally, what is not consent.”
Prime Minister Mark Carney, a devout Catholic, is in the Italian capital to attend the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV on Sunday.
