Ontario judge approves $500-million settlement in Loblaw, George Weston bread-fixing case

An Ontario judge has approved a settlement in a class-action lawsuit that accused Loblaw Cos. Ltd. L-T and its parent company George Weston Ltd. WN-T of engaging in an industry-wide scheme to fix the price of bread.In a written decision, judge Ed Morgan says the $500-million settlement is excellent, fair and in the best interest of class members.
Although the suspect in a firearm discharge in Petawawa in March remains at large, the investigation of that incident has led this past week to the arrest of eight other individuals and the seizure of more than $2.5 million worth of illegal drugs, police say. Read More
