A new provincial law that aims to end encampments does not address the root causes behind homelessness and punishes people who have no access to affordable shelter, critics say.
The barrier on the south side of the tri-community will be removed on Thursday at 8 a.m., the same time the evacuation order will lift.

Toronto police say they are looking for multiple suspects after a man was killed in the city’s third fatal shooting in a week. Police say the shooting is believed to be targeted and it happened Monday around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cedar Drive and Eglinton Avenue in the city’s east end.
