Canadian citizens of Afghan descent who were recruited as military language and cultural advisers — and at times carried out some of the most difficult and dangerous assignments of Canada’s war in Afghanistan — are now suing the federal government for discrimination and failure to care for them following their service.

Canada and the United Kingdom have agreed to resume negotiations over a stalled bilateral trade deal following a meeting between Mark Carney and Keir Starmer in Ottawa over the weekend.Canada will also support Britain’s efforts to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership, according to a joint statement from the two prime ministers, released Sunday. The U.K. has been seeking to join the 12-member free trade pact since 2021, and needs the support of other members.
