Digital mapping tool will improve Ottawa’s traffic infrastructure
June 10, 2025
You might spot a unique City vehicle driving around Ottawa streets this summer. At first glance, it may look like a regular SUV with a camera and tripod strapped to the roof—and you wouldn’t be entirely wrong. But there’s much more happening behind the scenes.
This vehicle is part of the Mobile Mapping of Traffic Infrastructure Project. It’s a collaboration between multiple City departments and falls under the Digital Twin and Reality Capture program.

- Street signs
- Traffic signals
- Pavement markings
- Streetlights
- Pedestrian crossovers
- And more
