If you head down George Street, and pass by the Salvation Army, you’ll notice a cluster of tents set up in front of the shelter. It’s an ever-growing encampment that has been set up by unhoused people. And for the past several months, Rideau-Vanier councillor Stéphanie Plante has been tirelessly trying to find a solution, only to be met with what she calls a ‘lack of action’ from the City of Ottawa. Plante joins Kristy Cameron to vent her frustrations. On the lighter side of the news cycle, Canadian Heritage has unveiled the Canada Day itinerary for 2025. Indigenous demonstrations against both the federal and Ontario governments unfolded at multiple sites across the province Tuesday, as protesters rallied against initiatives to fast-track major infrastructure projects. As far north as the Attawapiskat River, which flows into James Bay, and as far south as Queen’s Park, Ontario’s legislature, protesters gathered in separate demonstrations to push back against two laws recently passed at both levels of government.
