Bank Street and Heron Road intersection to reopen with reduced lanes
The Heron Road and Bank Street intersection will reopen as planned on Friday, August 29. Lane reductions will be in place to accommodate further utility work and road reconstruction in the area. Lane reductions are expected to continue until the end of 2025 as part of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal Project.
Lane reductions
The Bank Street and Heron Road intersection will be reduced to one lane, with eastbound and westbound access maintained at all times.
- Lane reduction on Bank Street will extend between the Transitway and Heron Road
- Lane reduction on Heron Road will extend between Alta Vista Drive and Kaladar Avenue
The placement of lane reductions may change as work progresses. Turning lanes will be maintained throughout the work. Please allow for extra travel time when going through this area.
Access to local businesses
Bank Street businesses remain open during construction. Construction work will be coordinated to ensure uninterrupted customer access to local businesses.
Traffic impacts
Traffic delays around the construction zone are expected. Signage will be in place to notify residents and commuters of the impacted area.

Pedestrians
Pedestrian access will be maintained through the work zone at all times. Cyclists will be able to dismount and use the pedestrian route.
Progress to date
- The current work in Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal Project includes the installation, rehabilitation and replacement of underground infrastructure including watermains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers. Installation has been successfully completed at the Bank Street and Heron Road intersection.
- Additional completed watermain work includes the installation of new watermains between Riverside Drive (eastbound) and Belanger Avenue as well as three large diameter watermain repairs.
- The installation of the new storm sewer between Sawmill Creek and Heron Road is complete, as are new storm and sanitary sewer connections between Bank Street and Kilborn Place, Randall Street and Evans Boulevard.
- The retaining wall on the east side of Bank Street, south of Kilborn Place, has been successfully replaced.
- Construction of the road, median, sidewalk, cycle track and traffic signals between Riverside Drive (eastbound) and the Transitway is 75 per cent complete. Utility pole replacements in this area have been completed.
Phase 1 will include full reconstruction of the road and sidewalks. It will also add a cycle track, new street lighting, traffic signals and streetscape improvements.
