Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Wed. August 6th, 2025

August 6, 2025

Whether it’s another day of progress, or an unexpected hurdle, Ottawa’s transit system is slowly taking shape. Over the next few years, hopefully for the better. Over in Pembroke, a significant milestone was reached on Tuesday, as Ottawa River Transit officially opened for business. It’s an on-demand transit service that uses 3 new vans, and each van is currently equipped to carry 8 passengers at a time. This new model operates exclusively within city limits, with a fare of $5 per ride. Kristy Cameron chats with Brian Abdallah in Hour 2. He is the Deputy Mayor for the City of Pembroke, and also serves as the Council Lead for this massive transit project. Meantime, Canada’s Capital hasn’t seen a drop of rain over the past 10 days, and this drier-than-usual Summer isn’t good news for local farmers. Joining us to vent his frustrations is Don Trott, the Manager of Maple Hill Urban Farm. He spends most of his days growing vegetables for various farmer’s markets. Plus, if you are hitching a ride on an Air Canada flight pretty soon, perhaps you should pack up a backup plan. That’s because Air Canada flight attendants have voted in favour of a strike, and they could be walking off the job before the month is over.
