MacDonald: Body cameras will do very little to stop police brutality

Recently, the Ottawa Police Service announced plans to equip some police officers with body cameras before the end of the year. The initiative appears to have widespread support. Proponents of body cameras argue that they will hold police accountable and provide transparency. The research shows, however, that many jurisdictions that use body camera technology have not reduced excessive use of force among police officers and, in fact, may compromise our civil rights.
