City and Canada’s Forest Trust Corporation join forces to grow Ottawa’s tree canopy

Trees are essential for the health and wellbeing of all life on our planet. They beautify communities and greenspaces, clean the air we breathe, purify the water we drink and provide a refuge for thousands of species of birds and other animals.

As a result, we all have a vested interest in planting and protecting the tree canopy right here at home. That’s why the City of Ottawa is celebrating National Forest Week with Canada’s Forest Trust Corporation (CFTC), a new sponsor supporting the City's tree planting projects.

CFTC is a social enterprise that empowers businesses to take measurable climate action. They pair a comprehensive approach to tree planting in Canada with proprietary technology to create Smart Forests™. Working with data and forestry partners, national youth groups and more, CFTC offers turnkey, nature-based solutions that are transparent and impactful.

As part of this sponsorship, the City and Canada’s Forest Trust Corporation will launch a campaign to support the City of Ottawa’s tree planting programs. The campaign will invite local Ottawa businesses and residents to join the City and CFTC in taking measurable climate action. A portion of all funds raised by Canada’s Forest Trust Corporation will be provided to the City to contribute to Ottawa’s tree canopy. Digital dashboards developed by Canada’s Forest Trust Corporation will track the impact of this initiative.  

The City of Ottawa is leading the way as the first municipality in Canada to enter into an agreement with CFTC. Canadians continue to see the importance of businesses contributing to climate action. This sponsorship further supports the City’s existing climate action efforts by rallying businesses, leaders and residents to support the growth of Ottawa’s tree canopy for generations to come.
