Anand in Beijing visit signals warming relationship with China

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand, in Beijing to lay the groundwork for a meeting between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Xi Jinping, says the two countries have reopened a communication channel that will enable them to stabilize ruptured relations and, hopefully, resolve a punishing trade dispute.
Ms. Anand spent two hours talking to her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, during her first trip to China since being appointed Canada’s top diplomat in May. She is only the second Canadian foreign minister to visit China in eight years: a period that saw relations hit their lowest point in more than a quarter century.

Calvin Bird arrived in Edmonton on a crisp Monday morning to see Bryan Farrell, the man accused of killing his 14-year-old grandson, Samuel Bird.Samuel had been missing since June 1. Last Wednesday, Mr. Farrell, 38, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of the Indigenous teen. Samuel’s body was found in a forested rural area west of Edmonton the next day.

The Lansdowne 2.0 project is moving toward a final decision at Ottawa City Hall. And earlier today, Ottawa’s Mayor delivered an update on the redevelopment and construction approval plan. Mark Sutcliffe said taxpayers should be encouraged by this announcement, applauding the project as a good return-on-investment. Earlier today, Ottawa’s Mayor delivered an update on the Lansdowne 2.0 redevelopment and construction approval plan. Mark Sutcliffe said taxpayers should be encouraged by this announcement, with the annual investment down from an estimated $5 million to $4.3 million.
