Ottawa Now - Somerset West residents express safety concerns as overdose incidents rise

October 28, 2025

Data from the City of Ottawa has shown an increase in the number of overdose incidents at a Downtown neighbourhood. Last year, the Somerset West Community Health Centre was one of the first sites that was directed to close by the province, largely because it was located within 200 metres of a daycare. It closed on March 1st and has since been converted into a HART Hub. Since then, residents have noticed a concerning increase in crime rates and public drug usage within the immediate area. CTV’s Austin Lee breaks down the numbers. Then, we hear from Marna Nightingale, a concerned resident in Somerset West who is worried about the health and safety of her fellow neighbours.
