Since Donald Trump came to power in the United States authoritarianism, fake news and propaganda have been on the rise around the world. For 10,000 years humankind has fought for the right to self-determination. Only democracy has proven to provide the legal and institutional framework necessary for individuals to achieve freedom, or a form of it. And, only since the end of World War II has a part of humankind been able to experience individual freedom to the extent that we do now in Canada and other western democracies. Just 77 years in humankind's entire history (not including Ancient Athens). Nothing, in my opinion, is more important to the future of humankind's development than Democracy. Because extremism leads to anarchy and a loss of individual freedoms, it is never the right approach.
I voted: NoRed Tories are not social conservatives. As the gap between the two factions continues to widen, it would be to Canada's benefit to adopt some form of Proportional Representative (PR) electoral system so that the many varied voices within our nation can be better represented. First Past the Post doesn't cut it anymore. Most western countries use some form of PR now.

I really hope Russia doesn't invade the Ukraine. But, since it looks like Putin can't help himself, I support Canada providing more military aid to the Ukraine.

This is a tough one. On the one hand I'd like to see Canada tell China to stick it, but on the other, the Olympics are always a lot of fun to watch and even more fun to participate in I imagine. But, I worry about China using the Olympics as cover to attack Taiwan like Russia did when it attacked the Crimea during the Sochi Winter Olympics. Can we stand by and wait for our athletes to return home before responding? I don't think so.
